About Green & Gardens: Chandigarh is often called the “City Beautiful” due to its meticulously planned gardens and green spaces, such as the Rose Garden, Terraced Garden, and Garden of Fragrance. These gardens serve as recreational spaces, botanical research centers, and picnic spots for residents and tourists.
History & Significance
The gardens were developed following Le Corbusier’s master plan in the 1950s to incorporate greenery and open spaces into urban life. Over decades, additional botanical and thematic gardens were created to preserve biodiversity and offer aesthetic appeal.
